Snapshot 👀
OpenAI co-founder launches Safe Superintelligence, a startup dedicated solely to developing safe, advanced AI systems.
Sutskever's new venture aims to tackle AI safety head-on, free from commercial pressures and distractions.
Tech industry veteran assembles an elite team to pursue the holy grail of AI: safe superintelligence.
Key Highlights 👇🏼
Ilya Sutskever, who left OpenAI last month, has just dropped an AI bombshell. He’s teaming up with Daniel Gross, former head of Apple's AI and search efforts, and Daniel Levy, another ex-OpenAI employee, to create Safe Superintelligence Inc.
The company's singular mission is to pursue the development of the world's first “straight-shot” superintelligence lab, a tech beyond artificial general intelligence, which is reportedly about to be achieved by OpenAI. SSI has offices in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
The company's approach differs from traditional AI firms in focusing entirely on safety and avoiding distractions from "management overhead or product cycles." SSI claims this laser focus will insulate their progress from short-term commercial pressures.
Sutskever's move comes after his involvement in the controversial attempt to oust Sam Altman from OpenAI last November, which he later publicly regretted.
Why it's important ⬇️
SSI's launch highlights the growing emphasis on AI safety in the tech industry. As AI systems become more advanced, ensuring their safe development and deployment is becoming a critical concern.
Sutskever's reputation and experience could make SSI a significant player in shaping the future of AI safety research and implementation.

Snapshot 👀
Anthropic has launched a new AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, setting new industry benchmarks for intelligence and performance.
The model boasts twice the speed of its predecessor, Claude 3 Opus.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet has even outperformed most robust AI models like GPT-4o, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and Llama 400b.
Key Highlights 👇🏼
Claude 3.5 Sonnet is now available for free on Claude.ai and the Claude iOS app, with higher rate limits for Claude Pro and Team plan subscribers. It's also accessible via the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud's Vertex AI.
This new model outperforms competitors and Claude 3 Opus on various evaluations, including graduate-level reasoning (GPQA), undergraduate-level knowledge (MMLU), and coding proficiency (HumanEval).
The model costs $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, with a 200K token context window.
It excels at understanding nuance, humor, and complex instructions, and it can write high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet also shines in terms of vision, surpassing Claude 3 Opus on standard vision benchmarks. It's particularly adept at visual reasoning tasks, like interpreting charts and graphs and accurately transcribing text from imperfect images.
To top it all, Anthropic has also introduced the Artifacts on Claude.ai. When Claude generates content like code snippets, text documents, or website designs, these Artifacts appear in a dedicated window alongside the conversation.
This creates a dynamic workspace where users can see, edit, and build upon Claude's creations in real-time.
Why it’s important ⬇️
Claude 3.5 Sonnet represents a significant leap forward in AI capabilities, offering enhanced intelligence, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
This advancement opens up new possibilities for businesses and individuals leveraging AI for complex tasks, such as context-sensitive customer support, multi-step workflow orchestration, and legacy application modernization.

Amazon secretly develops "Metis," a multimodal AI chatbot poised to challenge ChatGPT's market dominance.
Retail giant's new AI assistant promises text generation, image creation, and real-time data access in one package.
Amazon's Metis project could mark the company's resurgence in the increasingly competitive AI technology landscape.
Key Highlights 👇🏼
Amazon is reportedly developing a multimodal AI chatbot called Metis, which it hopes will rival OpenAI's ChatGPT. The project, named after the Greek goddess of wisdom, is said to be powered by Amazon's advanced Olympus AI model.
Metis is designed to be a web-based chatbot capable of generating text, answering queries, and creating images. It's expected to use a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework, allowing it to access and retrieve real-time information from the internet.
The project is being developed by Amazon's Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) division, led by Senior VP Rohit Prasad, with CEO Andy Jassy reportedly closely involved. Some employees are concerned that Amazon might be late to the AI chatbot race.
Why it's important ⬇️
Amazon's entry into the AI chatbot market could shake up the industry, given the company's vast resources and data.
If successful, Metis could help Amazon catch up in the AI race, where it has been perceived as lagging behind competitors like Google and Microsoft.
The project also signals Amazon's commitment to developing advanced AI technologies beyond its current offerings, like Alexa.

Scientists teach computers to spot early signs of Alzheimer's by analyzing how people talk. This clever tech could help doctors catch the disease sooner and give patients a better fighting chance.
OpenAI delays advanced voice mode for ChatGPT on Mac. The company wants to make sure it's safe and smooth before letting it loose.
SoftBank's got its eye on a new AI player, Perplexity, and it's not afraid to open its wallet. Reports say the company is about to fund Perplexity at a $3 billion valuation.
OpenAI acquires Rockset, a real-time database technology company, to boost large-scale data handling for AI model training.
